About DevCraftKit

DevCraftKit is a collection of free online tools for the small, recurring jobs that come up when you build and run software, with explanations that help you understand the result.

Why it exists

Developers keep a mental list of "that one site I use for X": one for JSON, one for subnets, one for headers. Many of those sites are cluttered, unclear about what they do with pasted data, or give an answer without saying what it means. DevCraftKit aims to be one consistent place where the tools are quick, the privacy behaviour is stated plainly, and each result comes with enough explanation to act on it.

Who it is for

Developers, DevOps and platform engineers, system administrators, security-minded engineers, and anyone who maintains a website: for example, someone cleaning a log before opening a support ticket, planning a cloud network, debugging a redirect, or tightening a site's response headers.

What is available

12 tools are live today:

  • Log Sanitizer: Mask secrets, tokens, and PII in logs before you share them.
  • JWT Decoder & Inspector: Decode a JWT, inspect its claims and expiry, and review potential security issues locally.
  • Image Metadata & AI Provenance Cleaner: Inspect image metadata, check supported AI provenance information, and remove hidden metadata locally.
  • HTTP Security Headers Analyzer: Analyze HTTP response headers for security configuration issues.
  • CSP Analyzer: Analyze Content Security Policy headers, detect configuration issues, explain directives and sources, and generate safer CSP recommendations.
  • Email Header Analyzer: Analyze email headers to understand authentication, delivery paths, mail servers, timestamps, and potential security issues.
  • JSON Formatter: Format, validate, beautify, minify, and explore JSON instantly.
  • .htaccess Analyzer: Analyze Apache .htaccess configuration, rewrite rules, redirects, security settings and common server issues.
  • Cron Builder: Build, validate and explain cron expressions, preview run times by timezone, and check dialect compatibility.
  • CIDR Calculator: Calculate subnet info from an IPv4 CIDR block.
  • Redirect Chain Analyzer: Analyze URL redirects, detect redirect chains and loops, and inspect HTTP status behavior.
  • Open Graph & Social Preview Analyzer: Check Open Graph tags, Twitter/X Cards, social images and link previews for any public webpage.

The tool directory also lists tools that are planned and clearly marks them as not available yet. The blog holds guides on the concepts behind the tools.

Who runs it

DevCraftKit is independently developed and maintained by one developer. It is not a company, and there is no editorial team. Articles are written in original words to explain concepts, with technical details checked against the relevant standards and documentation.

How tools are maintained

Tools are tested with automated test suites for their parsing and calculation logic. When a bug or an incorrect result is reported, the aim is to reproduce it, fix it and add a test where practical. Articles carry a published date and, when they are materially revised, an updated date.

Keeping it free

The tools are free to use and nothing is locked behind support. The site is kept running through optional support (the "Buy me a byte" link) and may show clearly labelled advertising. Read the Privacy Policy for how data is handled and the Terms of Use for conditions of use.

Local processing where it is possible

Most tools analyse your input in the browser, so the text you paste is not sent to DevCraftKit. Where a tool has to contact something (the Redirect Chain Analyzer in URL mode, or the Open Graph & Social Preview Analyzer, which fetches the public page on our server), it says so next to the input.

Honest results

Analyzers report what they can actually observe and say what they cannot. They show findings with explanations instead of a vague score, and the limits of each tool are written on its page.

Tools that answer one question well

Each tool is built around a task that comes up repeatedly: cleaning a log before sharing it, working out a subnet, finding why a policy or a rewrite rule misbehaves.

Explanations next to the tool

A result is more useful when you understand it, so every tool is paired with plain-language guidance, examples and related articles.

Fast and uncluttered

No sign-up, no paywall and no feature hidden behind support. Pages are kept light, and advertising, if shown, stays away from the controls.

Open to correction

If a result or an explanation is wrong, tell the developer. Corrections to tools and articles are made as they are verified.
